What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I would like to be published by Bauer Media Group as it already has Kerrang! that focuses on the Heavier music and it would be useful for them to have a more diverse musical range that would appeal to a different audience, this would therefore give them the distinct advantage of them broadening their range and gaining a large monopoly of the industry. The benefits of being published by such a large company is the fact that it would be able to be marketed and plugged in their other established magazines as the similarity is enough to be recommended but the magazine is more specific and different enough to be a valid publication in its own right. This means they can effectively diversify within the rock music sound without straying too much from what they already know and therefore they can keep a somewhat similar style apart from being stripped back of all the garish, over the top features of their other publication.

Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My product shows the stereotypical disillusioned, anti-establishment working class youth and this will connect with the youth of today with its semi-political message of complete apathy. This may alienate the Middle Classes however I believe that it may actually help due to a latent desire to rebel against their parents and their political and economic views.

The social group is the outcasts and people that aren’t actually interested in the personal lives of the members of the bands. The stereotype is of people that want to learn more about a very niche market and therefore they would read the magazine religiously and are therefore very interested in the music rather than the personal lives of the people in it. The people are probably about 15 to 23 based on the target demographic of the genre of music. They are normally slackers and they haven’t achieved much. Much like the punk music movement of the late 70’s its aimed at a much more working class population as it will appeal to them.

The offering of the prizes is rather limited due to the fact that it is probable that the people that follow these bands are rather dedicated to the band and its likely that they already know when and where their favorite are playing in their area so most promotional giveaways of any gigs would be pointless. The same goes for any band merchandise that may be a giveaway as this is most likely of the more indie or pop groups rather than the punk or garage rock groups.

The Mise-En-Scene is mostly limited to the costume of the artist for things such as the plug in his ear (a sign of rebelliousness) and the t-shirt that says “when pigs ride” implying another streak of rebelliousness contained within the music and also implying that the audience has no fondness of the police.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I have created a house style with the fonts and colours used, along with this the design aesthetic seems to convey the same minimalist idea and this will add to the design as its apparent that it is exactly the same type of magazine.

The fonts used are standard throughout and this is indicative of the house style along with the three main colours. My initial idea was to make it so it was only three colours (and i kept this on the front page as it looked odd with red) however the other two needed something to draw the eyes of the reader to the most important parts of the collumns. The layout is very sparse and it doesnt give a full idea of everything that is contained within the issue, this breaks conventions and therefore is seen as rather different to the typical magazine. Also the off center picture makes the main artists face look larger than life and
therefore changes what can be seen on the person. The lack of garish design is indicative of my own personal tastes as I strongly dislike any kind of large, overstated font and colours so the slightly muted design means convention is broken again as it avoids the idea of standing out. This gives the publication a much more professional feel.

Original images for the music magazine

Long shutter speed to look like and album cover for a psychedelic punk band

In front of the light and therefore looking like a silhouette, could be used to make the artist look mysterious.

Using studio lighting for the effectiveness of the lights, making full use of the photography department.

Again using the photography studio in order to get the correct lighting.
Can tell the difference between a DSLR camera and a standard camera due to the sharpness of the image and such, this is the main problem with using a standard camera.
